Plan notes

Best for

A simple hard workout when you want the Sulphur Mountain view without buying a gondola ticket.

Pair with

Banff Upper Hot Springs, Banff Gondola summit boardwalk, or a slow meal back in town.

Access

Starts from the Upper Hot Springs/Gondola corridor, so it is easy to pair with the hot springs or summit boardwalk.

Season

Most straightforward in snow-free months; shoulder-season ice can make the switchbacks slower than the distance suggests.

Safety

Simple route-finding, steady climbing. Bring layers because the summit can feel much colder than town.

Wildlife

Elk graze near the gondola base, especially at dawn and dusk. Calving mothers (May–June) and rutting bulls (Sept–Oct) are aggressive — stay 30 m back.

No-car note

Roam service to the Sulphur corridor often makes this easier without a car; confirm the current schedule.

Best for

The trail trades crowds for a long valley walk, glacier views, and a wilder finish above the lake.
