Dog-friendly Banff: rules, walks & trip planning

• Some trails do not allow dogs. Check the current restriction and closure details for the exact route before leaving town.
• Use a Town of Banff off-leash park only after checking its current status. Weather, thaw, and maintenance can close a space.

• Keep the leash attached and your dog under physical control throughout national-park public spaces, except inside a designated Town of Banff off-leash park that is open.
• Pick up waste and put it in a garbage bin.
• Do not leave pet food or food dishes outside. Store dishes whether they are full or empty.
• Treat posted trail restrictions and closures as a route change, not a suggestion. Pick another walk when dogs are restricted.

• Sundance Park Dog Park is near the recreation grounds and baseball diamonds, but it closes for an annual spring dry-out. Reopening depends on ground and weather conditions.
• The Industrial District dog park is seasonal: the Town says it can open only when the ground is frozen and has snow cover, and warming can close it again.
• Check the Town's current conditions before making either park the anchor of your day.
• Inside a dog park, carry a leash, keep your dog under voice and sight control, and dispose of waste immediately.

• Start with one walk whose current dog rules and trail status you have checked, then keep a short town backup.
• Choose the stay first and confirm its current pet policy directly. Do not treat an old listing or roundup as a current promise.
• Confirm patio, attraction, shuttle, and tour policies directly before building the day around them.
• Use the hikes and conditions pages to narrow the plan, then recheck the relevant operator or public-body page before going.

• Parks Canada warns that off-leash dogs can trigger aggressive behaviour from wildlife such as grizzly bears and elk, or harm smaller animals.
• A quiet trail is not permission to remove the leash. Wildlife can be close even when you cannot see it.
• If a wildlife warning or closure affects your route, move to the backup instead of trying to work around it.
