Plan notes

Best for

Fit groups of four or more seeking a quieter long day with big views.

Pair with

Stewart Canyon as a lighter add-on on the return.

Access

Follow the Lake Minnewanka lakeside trail (often biked outside the closure window) for about 8 km, then climb to the lookout junction.

Season

Best late June through September. Group-of-four restrictions apply mid-July to mid-September.

Safety

Prime grizzly habitat — the group-of-four rule is enforceable. Travel with three or more partners during the restriction window; do not split up.

Wildlife

Active grizzly corridor. Aylmer Pass campsite has been closed in past seasons due to bear activity. Always check current bulletins.

No-car note

Roam Transit Route 6 serves Lake Minnewanka in season.

Plain of Six Glaciers

Glacier views, a second tea house, a moraine that feels like Mars.

Best for

The trail trades crowds for a long valley walk, glacier views, and a wilder finish above the lake.

Switchbacks for 2 hours. Top is the same view, half the crowd.

Same summit complex and boardwalk payoff, earned by switchbacks instead of a ride.

The hard one. Knife-edge views, screaming quads. Pack snacks.
