Local tips
Local heads-up worth knowing before you go.
Locals know
Lake Louise fills before sunrise
In July–August the lot is full by 6 a.m. Use the Park & Ride shuttle from the ski hill — faster than circling.
Moraine Lake = no private cars
Year-round. Book the Parks Canada shuttle, a commercial bus, or bike up early.
Weather flips fast above tree line
Pack a shell, gloves, and a layer even on bluebird mornings. Afternoon thunderstorms are normal in summer.
Eat early or book ahead
Town dinner spots fill from 6 p.m. on weekends. Lunch around 11:30 or dinner before 5:30 = no wait.
Wildlife is real, not scenery
Stay 100 m from bears and elk, 30 m from everything else. Carry bear spray on any backcountry trail.
Cell service is patchy
Download offline maps and your itinerary before leaving town. The Bow Valley Parkway has long dead zones.
